Recognized as Canada’s premier clean comedian, Leland decided early on that he would not compromise his act to go for cheap, easy, shock humor. As a result of staying clean, Leland carved out quite the niche for himself in the world of comedy. Accolades such as being named a finalist in the search for Canada’s Funniest New Comic in 1997 and the two appearances in the prestigious Just for Laughs festival in Montreal where in 2001 he was named runner-up for the Homegrown Comic Competition Canada. That critical acclaim opened doors for Leland not only to headline clubs across Canada and the United States but to begin to showcase his talent on television and radio. Leland was a regular on the syndicated radio show “Pure Comedy Radio” as well as featured twice on CBC radio’s “Madly Off in All Directions,” Leland also hosted and produced two television shows in the Vancouver market as well as appeared on numerous other programs across the United States and Canada on CBC television, YTV, Star TV, Global and Discovery Kids as well as the nationally syndicated program “Bananas.” And just like his stand-up career, Leland was recognized for excellence in the television world as well, receiving the BCAB 2002 Broadcast Performer of Tomorrow award for his comedic work on television.
Along his
career path, Leland realized that he had also been given a great
platform to speak to audiences both on and offstage about his
experiences and relationship with Christ. Whether he is sharing
his testimony or weaving the Gospel through his hilarious act,
Leland has the ability to do so in a comfortable, non-threatening
manner that is perfect for outreach events. And he is never afraid
to be a Christian in the comedy world because he has taken his
act to a new level, a level where all barriers are eliminated.
Leland draws his outrageous physical humor from family life, the
foibles found in everyday situations and a unique personal upbringing.

"I
don't remember what got me thinking about it, but I really wanted
what my brother, sister, mother and father had in a relationship
with God. I was fairly young (7yrs old), but I wanted to commit
my life and I was very sure of that. So I asked my mom to help
me pray and she was so happy that she cried (of course I'd seen
her cry at an episode of Three's Company.....you know
the one where Chrissy's dad accepts her and trusts her finally,
it's actually quite moving) and we knelt down in front of my bed
in the garage where we were living at the time (it's absolutely
true, we lived on a farm and built a new house, but it wasn't
ready yet...it's a long story) and I committed my life.
"I
felt like God has had His hand on me throughout my life since,
and I desire to be a witness for Him both on and off the stage.
Whether it is an outreach event where I am sharing my faith or
a comedy club where other comics get to see what I'm like, I want
to be a light to the world.
"But
what I really enjoy about being a Christian and a Comedian are
those times when someone tells me they really needed to laugh
because of events and things going on in their life. For a little
while they forget about their troubles and laugh hard. I like
doing outreach events because then I can give them a more permanent
solution as well (more permanent? like eternity)."
